No Changes to Fernie Snowmobile Access Following Land Sale
On September 29, 2025, Doman Building Materials Group Ltd. announced the sale of its remaining private timberlands in southeast British Columbia—including lands in the Elk Valley—to the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC).
The FSA would like to reassure members that there are no anticipated changes to snowmobiling access this season as a result of this transfer. We are in active discussions with NCC to align on shared values and explore what this partnership will look like long term. These conversations are positive, and NCC has confirmed that access for snowmobiling remains unchanged.
FSA at 35 Years
This year, the Fernie Snowmobile Association celebrates 35 years as a registered society. Throughout that time, we have maintained consistent and respectful land use partnerships across the Elk Valley. Today, we manage one of the most complex agreement portfolios in the province—working with:
The Province of British Columbia
The Government of Canada
Indigenous partners
Private landowners
The Nature Conservancy of Canada
Our long-standing agreement with NCC provides a strong foundation as ownership shifts, and we look forward to building on that relationship.
Our Commitment
The FSA is more than trails—we are stewards and community partners. Our commitment remains the same: to balance responsible recreation, protect access, and ensure snowmobiling in the Elk Valley continues to thrive for generations to come.
As we look ahead, 2025–2026 FSA memberships are now on sale. Our early bird sale is open until October 19th, and this year youth memberships are free with the purchase of a primary membership before the deadline. Don’t miss out—join or renew today and help us get ready for another exciting season on the trails.
