Grooming Report

Dec 27, 2025 FSA Grooming Report

CONDITIONS:

This morning temperatures are -14°C, snowing, with light winds. 22cm of new snow overnight, 80cm in the past 7 days, and total snowpack heights at cabin elevation 190cm.

Fernie has experienced several significant weather events in December, including periods of unusually high rainfall and strong winds from valley bottom to ridgetop at times. A highly variable freezing line during these story cycles have resulted in very shallow show below approximately 1,500m (think Graffiti Rock or Paige’s draw elevation). Of concern are elevated stream flows, with numerous open creeks, fast-moving water, and localized flooding present across the area coupled with severe windfall and numerous downed trees. While this has delayed our usual start up - conditions are improving and our team has been out working their magic over the past week to deliver the best riding possible. Expect variable conditions throughout.

Today: Occasional snow or a few flurries during the morning.  Light accumulation, possible 2 to 5 cm.  Windy, possibly strong at times during the morning.  Sunny with cloudy periods during the afternoon.  High near -9, trending a few degrees colder during the day.

Tonight: Clear with cloudy periods.  Low near -17.

GROOMING:

Corbin: Groomed from the staging area to the Rain Gauge last night. Groomed to the McClatchie on Dec 23rd.

Coal Creek: Variable conditions on lower trail up to about 1500m (Paige’s Draw) - expect open water in lower sections of trail but conditions are improving daily. Good winter riding and grooming last night on all upper Coal Creek trails. Event today: Bob Arnott Memorial Family Ride - join us as we take the day to honor those riders we have lost from our riding community. There will be a group ride from the staging area to the Rolling Hills Cabin departing the base around 10:30am. BBQ lunch at the cabin to follow.

Morrissey: Variable conditions on lower trail up to about 1500m (Graffiti Rock). Good winter riding and grooming last night on all upper Morrissey trails. Trail to the Notch has been punched in but not groomed with the tiller yet.

Hartley: Significant trees down across trail after recent storms. The crews are headed out over the weekend to clear the trail before we can do a full groom.

Ram: Open. No grooming. Note that there is significant damage to the Lodgepole FSR at 31km as well as the Ram FSR around km 40 due to flooding. Repairs underway.
